The Next Lockdown

Here is what should happen if there is another lockdown:

Each government official who endorses the idea of shuttering businesses immediately stops receiving a paycheck the minute they force others out of work. There will be no unemployment benefits paid at all — to anyone who is instantly unemployed. In addition, each salary derived from grants for health and health sciences will be suspended. This will mean, the minute those in power decide to put others out of work, they join the ranks of the unemployed. The pain will be shared across the board.

People in government agencies or elected officials can keep working and governing, but they no longer will be paid by the state.

With this “new normal,’ those who wield power will immediately understand how millions felt over the past 16 months. They might think twice about repeating the fiasco of 2020.

Question: In what way, other than long-term elections, can those in power be held responsible?

Do you think there will be another lockdown? If so, should there be shared accountability? If so, in what way?
